Sega has confirmed that a new animated short based on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will debut this September—just ahead of the game’s launch on Nintendo Switch and other platforms. A short teaser was posted on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, giving fans a first glimpse of the animation’s tone and visuals.

A New Sonic Animation Is On the Way

Dragon Quest Series Visual Retrospective

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is already shaping up to be one of Sega’s most ambitious Sonic racing projects to date, and this new animation appears to tie directly into its worldbuilding and character lineup. The teaser shows brief flashes of stylized racing action and character-focused moments that hint at a more narrative-driven approach—similar in spirit to Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Divergence or Sonic Mania Adventures.

No full title or episode count has been confirmed, but Sega says the full animation will premiere around the same time the game launches on September 25, 2025. CrossWorlds will also feature characters from crossovers like SpongeBob and Minecraft through its season pass.

CrossWorlds Expands Sonic’s Universe

This isn’t the first time Sega has released animations to support Sonic titles. Previous racing entries and platformers have often launched alongside short-form animated media to build out their universes. If CrossWorlds follows suit, expect sharp visuals, fan-favorite characters, and a few surprises for longtime fans.
