Yes, it’s real. SpongeBob and Patrick will be fully playable racers in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, each with their own themed karts and animations. This continues Sega’s bold crossover strategy that blends Sonic’s world with major pop culture icons.

The duo arrives as part of the upcoming Season Pass, which introduces a wide range of new content over time. CrossWorlds is clearly aiming to become the Super Smash Bros. of kart racers—with an increasingly stacked lineup.

Here’s What’s in the Season Pass (So Far)

  • Minecraft – Characters and stages based on the iconic sandbox universe
  • SpongeBob SquarePants – Featuring SpongeBob and Patrick with unique vehicles
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) – Yet-to-be-revealed heroes in a half shell
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender – Aang and others expected to join the race
  • + Two More Mystery Crossovers – To be revealed in future Direct-style updates

While we still don’t know exactly how these universes will mesh with Sonic’s high-speed aesthetic, early footage suggests that Sega is going all-in on stylized kart design and vibrant stage crossovers.
