Final Fantasy XVI might be coming to Nintendo Switch 2—if recent remarks from the game’s creators are anything to go by. During a recent Xbox Series X|S launch event for the RPG, producer Naoki Yoshida hinted that Nintendo’s platform may be next. “Just Nintendo’s left,” he reportedly said, prompting fans to speculate about a Switch 2 version in the works.

According to reports, Yoshida made the comment while discussing platform availability for Final Fantasy XVI. Currently, the action-RPG is out on PlayStation 5 and recently launched on Xbox Series X|S. When asked about a Nintendo version, creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro added, “I will do my best.”

While this isn’t an official confirmation, the phrasing strongly suggests internal interest in getting Final Fantasy XVI running on Nintendo Switch 2. It’s not the first time Square Enix has ported major Final Fantasy titles to Nintendo platforms—but XVI’s graphical scale makes this one of the most ambitious yet.

Can Switch 2 Handle Final Fantasy XVI?

Final Fantasy XVI is a visually intense title, especially during its massive Eikon battles. The game uses fast action combat, cinematic cutscenes, and high-fidelity effects—raising questions about whether a Switch 2 version could deliver comparable performance.

Still, with Switch 2’s enhanced specs and growing third-party support, a port might not be out of reach. If Square Enix pulls it off, it would mark a major moment for both Nintendo’s platform and the Final Fantasy brand’s multiplatform future.
