Switch 2 Sells 140K in Japan, Mario Kart World Passes 1 Million

Nintendo Switch 2 continues to dominate the Japanese market. According to the latest data from Famitsu, Nintendo sold 140,026 units of its next-gen platform between June 16–22, 2025. Meanwhile, Mario Kart World remains the country’s top-selling game, passing the 1 million milestone in physical sales.

With another 122,578 copies sold this week, Mario Kart World has officially become the first Switch 2 title to cross seven figures at retail in Japan. The game launched on June 5 and has quickly established itself as a staple in households across the country.

Also charting this week is RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, which debuted on both Switch and PlayStation platforms. The Atlus title performed strongest on Nintendo systems, combining for over 26,000 units sold between Switch 1 and Switch 2 editions.

Japan Hardware Sales – Nintendo Dominates

Switch 2 outsold all other platforms combined, followed by modest numbers for older Switch models and Sony’s PlayStation 5. Xbox hardware continues to trail far behind in Japan.

Mario Kart World Takes the Lead

One month in, Mario Kart World is already proving itself as the flagship game for the Switch 2 era in Japan. With momentum like this, it’s clear Nintendo still holds the crown in its home market.
