Hitman Switch 2 is finally a reality. After years of cloud-only compromises, IO Interactive has brought Hitman World of Assassination to Nintendo Switch 2 as a fully native release — a decision the studio says was driven by “unfinished business.”

The original Hitman 3 Cloud Version launched on the first Switch back in 2021, but failed to gain traction. In a new interview with The Game Business, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak explained the studio’s motivation to give fans a proper version this time around.

“Without offending anyone, the cloud solution for Switch didn’t reach the success Nintendo expected,” Abrak said. “We felt there were still things left undone — that we owed Switch players a native version that respects what the platform can do.”
Designed for Portability
The new Switch 2 version includes content from all three modern Hitman entries, allowing players to stealth through iconic missions across Hitman, Hitman 2, and Hitman 3. It also includes Contracts mode, Escalations, and updated controls optimized for handheld play.
“We saw how well the game’s modular structure and short-session missions aligned with Switch 2’s portability,” Abrak added. “That made the decision easy.”
