Clair Obscur Devs Say Switch 2 Is “Interesting” — What That Could Mean

The developers behind the visually stunning RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have offered a subtle but telling comment about the Nintendo Switch 2 — and it could mean a port is on the table.

In a recent round of interviews following the game’s Summer Game Fest debut, Sandfall Interactive and Focus Entertainment were asked whether they had plans to bring the game to Nintendo’s upcoming system. The reply? It’s not a confirmation — but it’s close.

What They Said

The team stated that while the current focus is on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, they’re “watching the Switch 2 closely” and described the new system as “very interesting” from a technical perspective. While brief, the comment immediately sparked speculation across RPG communities and Nintendo-focused forums.

It’s the kind of statement developers make when they’re already experimenting — but not ready to make promises. And it makes sense. With the Switch 2 now confirmed to feature DLSS support, 12GB of RAM, and stronger GPU performance, Clair Obscur becomes a technically viable project on Nintendo’s new platform.

What Makes Clair Obscur Unique?

Expedition 33 is being positioned as a story-rich, turn-based RPG with painterly visuals, surreal character designs, and a combat system built around elegance and timing. It immediately caught the attention of genre fans, especially those who love games like Persona, Bravely Default, or Valkyria Chronicles.

It’s one of the boldest new IPs revealed this year, and if Nintendo can land it on Switch 2, it could signal a shift in how third-party studios view the platform’s relevance in high-end RPG storytelling.

Why This Matters for Switch 2

Nintendo platforms have always had strong RPG roots — but often lose out on graphically demanding third-party games due to hardware limitations. The Switch 2’s specs change that equation. For the first time, narrative-driven RPGs like Clair Obscur may no longer need to skip Nintendo hardware.

If Sandfall Interactive is willing to explore this port early, it could be the start of a new wave of ambitious games that wouldn’t have been possible on the original Switch.

Final Thoughts

Devs don’t say “interesting” unless they’re testing the water. Whether that leads to a release window or just early exploration, the fact that Clair Obscur’s creators are publicly interested in Switch 2 means more than we think.

And if a painterly, surrealist RPG like Expedition 33 makes its way to Nintendo — it could become a defining title in Switch 2’s growing third-party push.
