Elden Ring Movie Rumor: A24 and Alex Garland Reportedly Attached

Okay, so this might be the most cursed timing ever—in the best possible way. While Elden Ring is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2, multiple industry whispers are pointing to something even more bizarre: a full-blown Elden Ring movie. And yeah, it sounds as wild as it should.

Elden Ring movie rumor discussions are exploding across the internet. New reports say A24 is producing a film adaptation of FromSoftware’s open-world epic, with Alex Garland in talks to direct. And somehow, this is happening right as Elden Ring lands on Nintendo Switch 2.

From possible leaks to comments from George R.R. Martin, A24’s alleged involvement, and even a rumored 2026 shoot date with Alex Garland at the helm—it’s all technically just rumor. But the fact that we’re even talking about this proves how big Elden Ring has become.

A24? Alex Garland? Tarnished, This Is Getting Real

The rumors aren’t coming from thin air. Multiple sources suggest that A24 (yep, the prestige indie film studio behind Hereditary and Uncut Gems) is working with director Alex Garland to develop a feature adaptation of Elden Ring. Supposedly, production could begin in 2026.

There are also hints from George R.R. Martin himself, who said in a blog post there are “talks” about adapting the story. That’s not confirmation, but it’s enough to set Twitter (okay, X) ablaze.

How Do You Even Film Elden Ring?

Let’s be honest—this game has lore, yes, but it also has a giant lobster that jumps out of a swamp and kills you in two hits. That said, if anyone could turn the vibe of Elden Ring into something cinematic, it’s Garland. His past work (like Ex Machina and Annihilation) hits the perfect tone between cryptic and apocalyptic.

Still, the big question is: will the movie explain the story? Or will it be like the game—vague, weird, and full of vibes over clarity? Honestly, I’d take either. Just don’t skip the giant pot man.

And Now It’s Coming to Switch 2, Too?

Here’s what makes this even more unhinged: Elden Ring is launching on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the Tarnished Edition. That means millions of new players will be dying to dogs (again) right as Hollywood tries to make sense of the lore.

As someone who played it on PS5 and loved it, I’m kind of thrilled—and terrified—to replay it in handheld mode. It feels like Nintendo’s finally embracing the “hardcore” space again. And if the movie lands around the same time? Total Elden Ring renaissance.

Final Thoughts

This could be the worst adaptation ever made. It could also be brilliant. But either way, an Elden Ring movie rumor + a Switch 2 release = chaos I fully support.

Whether you want lore, spectacle, or just to hear someone say “Tarnished” with a British accent, something’s definitely brewing. And that something might be coming to theaters *and* handheld screens near you.

Would you watch an Elden Ring movie—or just watch someone else die to Margit again? Let us know in the comments, Tarnished.
